Today we are welcoming the pro Mocha Girl Book Blogger who is behind the blog Sort of Beautiful.  Give a big Mocha Girls Read welcome to …

Jade Boudwin

Jade is a book blogger from NC.  She will be celebrating the one year anniversary of her blog this March.  She has been reading since the age of four and building websites since the age of sixteen.  SortofBeautiful.com is the product of merging her two loves.  In her spare time she loves to read, watch tv, catch a movie, and hang out with friends and family.

MGR:  Thank you so much Jade for taking time to do this interview for Mocha Girls Read.  So tell us, why did you start your blog?

JB:  Well I’ve always had some website running since I was in eleventh grade, I love to build websites.  But this time I wanted something that I could keep going and be passionate about.  Something that I’d never run out of material for.  Being that I love books and am always reading, a book blog was perfect for me.  It gives me something to do while meeting new people and finding fabulous new books.

MGR:  Wow since the eleventh grade.  So overall how long have you been blogging?

JB: I say I’ve been online and blogging in some shape form or fashion for about 15 years now.  Since I was about 16 or 17 years old.

MGR:  What are somethings you have learned since you started blogging?

JB:  I learned that nothing is constant.  The internet, technology, and people are always changing and evolving and if you don’t want to fall behind it’s best to at least have a working knowledge of it all.  Or know someone who does.

MGR:  Just wondering, where did you get the name of your blog “Sort of Beautiful” from?

JB:  The name of my blog comes from my favorite quote about my favorite character.  I do love Jacob Black and at one point Bella tells him he’s “Sort of Beautiful”.  I loved how that sounded and thought it would make a good site name.  Looked it up and it was available so I bought it and SOB.com was born.

MGR:  How much time do you spend blogging?
JB:  Hmm, it really depends.  I’ll guess about maybe 4-7 hours a week, I never really paid any attention.
MGR:  What are some of the joys and pains of blogging?
JB:  The joys would be getting to share what I love with the world and fellow book lovers.  Also meeting so many wonderful bloggers and book readers throughout the web.  The pains would be the fact that sometimes I’m just not in the mood to blog or write a review.  So every now and again it can feel like a chore.

MGR:  What are you reading now, Jade?

JB:  I just finished Divergent by Veronica Roth, which was awesome, so right now I’m reading The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson.

MGR:  Who are some of your favorite authors?

JB:  Beverly Jenkins, Francis Ray, Jude Deveraux, and J.K Rowling are a few of my favorite authors.

MGR:  By the way Beverly Jenkins will be stopping by next week.  I never knew about her until I saw your review of one of her books on your site.  Thanks for the introducing me to a new author.  Next question.  Finish this sentence…If I had to do this all over again, I would…
JB:  If I had to do college all over again I would.  It was the most fantastic time of my life.  I made the best friends and had the best times.  I’d do it again in a heartbeat.

MGR:  Jade can you tell us, what is the big deal about blogging about books?

JB: I think it’s just a great way to hare your love or hatred of a particular book.  There are so many people who love to read who have no one in their lives to share that passion with because their friends and family aren’t readers and could care less.  Blogging allows you to get those feelings out, and to connect with like minded people.  It’s really a win win.

MGR:  It’s February and Black History Month in the US.  What does Black History Month mean to you?
JB:  Black History month is a month to celebrate and recognize all of those great people of color who have contributed greatly, or will contribute, to our growth and advancement as a people, community, and world.  I love that people who look like me will be celebrated as that happens so few and far between.
MGR:  What do you do for fun?
JB:  LOL, I read for fun.  But I also blog.  I love movies and television, and I love playing with my nephew.  I also love to get together with my friends and just hang out and have a good time.
MGR:  And what’s your guilty pleasure?
JB:  Reality television is my guilty pleasure.  A lot of that stuff I know I shouldn’t watch but  just can’t help it.  It’s so fascinating like a train wreck.
MGR:  I have to agree with you on that one.  LOL!!  What is your favorite line from a book?
JB:  I have no idea.  I’m really bad at remembering quotes.
MGR:    Tell us what are 2 things on your bucket list.
JB:  Get married and have kids.
MGR:  Thank you Jade for spending a little time with us and letting us know more about book blogging.  Give a Shout Out!
JB:  Shout to my Mommy, whose has always been there for me.

Thanks Mocha Girl R. for such a wonderful post. It was nice getting to know about Jade.

  • Thanks for the interview Alysia. I’m excited about Ms. Jenkins being here. I’ve been wanting to reach out to her and ask for an interview but I’ve been too scared!

    • Thank you Jade for this interview. I was shocked she answered my email. And I was even more shocked how easy she made it for me. I was so nervous! LOL!! Go figure!

      • I’m going to have to suck it up and ask her then. I’m glad to know it was an easy process…you’ve inspired me!

  • Lovely interview! I’m a sucker for reality television as well. I can understand the feeling that blogging can feel like a chore. it feels a bit like that for me now because I have so much going on and I’m not reading like I usually do.
