Nominations for February’s Book of the Month: Historical Black Fiction

Welcome to 2018 ladies!

It’s that time to pick our first book of the month for 2018.

              The theme for February’s book nominations will be…

Historical Black Fiction. 

(Hint:  Slavery is not our only history)

Note: If you are nominating a book in a series then only book 1 is allowed. And all nominations should be published in e-book and physical form.

Nominations are from 1/8/18 – 1/14/18

For selecting our book of the month Mocha Girls Read uses a democratic system for monthly selections. What do I need to do? In the comments section below, tell us what you want to read next (author and title).  How many books can I nominate? Just pick 1 title off your TBR (to be read) list. Then what? We will put the list of nominations up for everyone to vote on.  Once the voting is over, the winner will be selected as the book of the month. What if there is a tie? We will put the two books to a head to head competition. The two books will be re-posted and everyone will be able to vote again but only in a 48 hour window of time. When do the nominations start and end? The nominations start today and will close on January 14, 2018 at 11:00pm. Voting will start the next day.

Nominations for May’s Book of the Month: In An Animal’s Voice

 It’s that time to pick a new book of the month.

The theme for April’s book nominations will be…In an Animal’s Voice (Any book with an animal telling the story.)

And now we have a winner for our first book of 2017.

The Mocha Girl Read Book of the Month for January is The Heart Don’t Lie: Jewel’s Dilemma by Yasheca Lasha.  Take a minute to see what this book is all about.

Synopsis

Jewels is an around-the-way girl who prides herself on being the sexiest amongst her crew. Black, is her tall, dark, and handsome lover who will do anything to protect her. She soon discovers that loving a man like Black, a drug dealer, comes with many ups and downs.
After learning of Black’s infidelities with another woman in the bed they shared, Jewels decides to get revenge by playing the field. Things take an unexpected turn and spiral out of control when she meets LaShaun, and her sexuality is tested.
Relationships are ruined and friendships are destroyed, as Jewels struggles to figure out who really has her back. She soon discovers that nothing is safe when it comes to matters of the heart.
The Heart Don’t Lie: Jewels’ Dilemma, becomes a roller coaster ride full of twists and suspense, as the unveiling of adultery, murder, sex, and drugs begin to consume Jewels’ almost perfect world.

About the Author

Yasheca is a self-published author, editor, proofreader, and ghostwriter. She is an avid reader of all genres but has a special love and loyalty to urban fiction and street literature projects. As a teenager attending Doyle Middle School in Troy, New York, is where she began writing poetry and song lyrics inspired by the street flow and lyrics of Rhythm and Blues and Hip Hop music. Reading A Hustler’s Wife by Nikki Turner encouraged her to begin writing and go after her dream of having the world read her work. The support of family and friends encouraged her to complete her first novel “The Heart Don’t Lie: Jewels’ Dilemma.”

Yasheca is currently pursuing an MBA at Western Governors University and working on her second novel.

In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, spoken word and reading.
