Why I Love Wednesday… Favorite Villain

Reflections of a Bookaholic
Mocha Girl Alexis from Reflections of a Bookaholic started a Wednesday Meme called Why I Love Wednesday. This weeks topic is Favorite Villain.
My favorite villain would have to be Old Nick from Room by Emma Donoghue. If you have read the book, Old Nick isn’t around a lot but his overall presences is in every single moment, every single page and every single action of the other characters. Now that is what a villain does. He makes you think about him when he isn’t even around. He makes the character’s base all decisions on what they think he might do. Old Nick is physically present in the story for less than 1/4 of the book but he is always there. ALWAYS!
book coverHere is a synopsis of the book. If you haven’t read this book it is a MUST! read. I love this book!!!!

To five-year-old-Jack, Room is the world….

It’s where he was born, it’s where he and his Ma eat and sleep and play and learn. There are endless wonders that let loose Jack’s imagination-the snake under Bed that he constructs out of eggshells, the imaginary world projected through the TV, the coziness of Wardrobe beneath Ma’s clothes, where she tucks him in safely at night, in case Old Nick comes.

Room is home to Jack, but to Ma, it’s the prison where she’s been held since she was nineteen-for seven long years. Through her fierce love for her son, she has created a life for him in that eleven-by-eleven-foot space. But Jack’s curiosity is building alongside her own desperation—and she knows that Room cannot contain either indefinitely….

Told in the inventive, funny, and poignant voice of Jack, Room is a celebration of resilience-and a powerful story of a mother and son whose love lets them survive the impossible.

I LOVED Room! Read it in one day, I was hooked from the beginning. My favorite villian is Arturo from Geek Love * the best book ever written ever*

    • I really loved it too!! I hope the author writes a part 2 because I would love to see Jack grow up.

  • I heard Room was great. I saw the trailer for it and really wanted to pick it up. I’m going to have to get this one soon. Nick sounds like an awesomely written villian….someone you love to hate.

    • Room is a must .. must… must…read! I rarely hype up a book but this one calls for it! The trailer doesn’t do it justice at all!
